The FLIR Si124 acoustic imaging camera can help you locate leaks under pressure in compressed air systems or detect partial discharge in high-voltage electrical systems. This lightweight, one-hand solution can be used to identify issues up to 10 times faster than traditional methods. Equipped with 124 microphones, the Si124 generates a precise acoustic image that visually displays ultrasonic information, even in noisy industrial environments. The acoustic image is transposed in real time onto a digital camera image, allowing you to precisely locate the sound's source. The Si124 features an extension module that enables users to import acoustic images into the FLIR Thermal Studio suite for offline editing, analysis, and advanced reporting.
Thermography is an excellent preventive maintenance tool when there are temperature differences on the surfaces being analyzed. An air leak or over-greased bearings may not show up as a temperature increase, but rather emit a high-frequency sound that the human ear cannot detect.
The Si124 device captures high-frequency waves emitted by equipment using ball bearings, electricity, or vacuum/pressure vessels. These frequencies are typically in the range of 20kHz to 100kHz, which is beyond the range the human ear can hear, usually up to 16kHz.
This detection tool records the frequency levels detected and identified as problematic and transfers the data to FLIR’s Studio Pro analysis software. In the case of air leaks, this software can generate the airflow rate and even quantify these losses in terms of system pressurization leakage costs.
